between two pregnancies.

Consultation
Contraception consultation
Every woman is unique. During a contraceptive consultation, we will discuss your wishes and
go
through various contraceptive methods with you. Of course, we will take your medical history
into account. Do you opt for a hormone or copper IUD? Then you can also have this placed by
us. We will prescribe the drug digitally and you will receive a payment link by e-mail
and/or text message. Once the payment has been made, the IUD will be ready for you to be
placed within a few days.
If you are not known to one of our midwives or have not yet been pregnant, we will discuss
everything during a separate contraceptive consultation. This
conversation takes about half an hour.

IUD with hormones
The hormonal IUD gradually releases a small amount of hormones and ensures that
the mucus in the cervix becomes ‘tougher’, making it more difficult for sperm to pass through. The release of the hormone levonorgestrel in
the uterus makes the sperm cells less mobile; this reduces the chance of fertilization. Due to the release of the hormone and because the IUD is a ‘foreign object’
in the uterus, the uterine lining is not or hardly built up. As a result, a possibly fertilized egg cannot implant. Finally, in some women, ovulation is suppressed. If no egg is released, fertilization cannot take place.
The most common side effects of the hormonal IUD are more or less
bleeding during menstruation, intermenstrual bleeding or the absence of menstruation. In addition, headaches, abdominal pain and back pain are also common, as well as vaginal discharge and inflammation of the labia or vagina. Refer to the package insert of Mirena or Kyleena for an overview of the side effects.

This is how it works
Insertion of an IUD
Insertion of an IUD is quite quick. With the help of a speculum (duckbill)
the cervix is made visible. The midwife then measures your uterus and
the IUD can be inserted. Please note: before inserting an IUD it is
important that there is no risk of having an STD or being pregnant. Therefore,
have safe sex at least until the insertion. If you have any doubts, discuss this with us.
- Insertion of an IUD can be experienced as unpleasant or painful.
- You may take two Aleve Feminax 275 or one ibuprofen
400 mg the night before. - Take the same dose again one hour before insertion.

but it can also be done this way…
